This process should work for about nine out of ten people with this problem, and if it doesn't work for you, it probably means that you need to do a complete carburetor this is my first instuctable so give me some slack, and I will try to add more pictures/videos 1 Gather ToolsAll you really need for this project are some basic tools, and a can of carburetor cleaner .You need1. Flat head screw driver2. 3/16" wrench or driver3. 1/4" wrench or ratchet4. Pliers5. Carburetor cleaner not shown; any brand from an auto part store should work6. Air compressor with 'blowgun" attachment. not required but highly recommended Step 2 DiagnosisIf your jeep stalls when you slow down or stop, or even just acts strangely when idling, this process will most likely help or fix the problem in only about 30 to 60 easiest way to tell if this will help your jeep is to start the jeep with the air cleaner off, once you have done this, open the choke and look down into the carb, if you see any dripping off either of the jets this instructable should help or fix any idle problems you are having, otherwise you may need to rebuild your carb or look into other 3 Remove Air the two wing nuts and remove the top of the air cleaner assembly. At this point, you should also use a pair of pliers to carefully pry of the metal "loop" over the carburetor that holds down the air cleaner. i forgot to do this until a later step, but it is best to do this now.Step 4 Remove Choke AssemblyNote I forgot to remove the wire from step two until later, but it makes this step easier if you have already done Remove wire clip from throttle linkage side of carburetor see picture2. Remove 1/4" bolt from opposite side of choke rod see second picture and remove little flange thing the bolt held on you may need to tap it with a screw driver, or something similar3. Remove the two 3/16" bolts holding the choke plate onto the choke rod depending on your carburetor you may have small flat head screws here, but still remove them Be extremely careful not to drop these screws into the carburetor, or you will have to spend quite a while "fishing" for them!!!4. At with all of this removed, pull out the choke rod; the choke rod should slide out of its holes 5 Remove Venutri AssemblyThe venutri assembly is a small assembly which is the cause of all of your problems I really do mean all of them [At least the ones related to your carburetor idling badly].At this point, you should be able to look into the carb and see two screws with holes in the heads, you need to remove these be careful not to damage them, they are important.After removing the two screws, you should be able to lift out the venutri assembly in order to clean the assembly will have two halves, the top one having two pins sticking out; be careful with these, although they are the primary source of clogging in this carburetor. Step 6 Clean EverythingOnce the Assembly is out, spray all of the holes with the carburetor cleaner, paying special attention to the long pins on the upper part of the assembly. it is best to use a long thin piece of wire to break up any blockage in the pins. Also, use the cleaner to pray out the holes under where the venutri came from. WHEN YOU DO THIS, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL NOT TO DISLODGE THE SMALL BALL BEARING IN ONE OF THE HOLES, IT IS CRITICAL TO THE OPERATION OF THE you have done all this, carefully blow out the remaining cleaner with a low pressure air gun, pay attention to my warning above for this 7 ReassembleAt this point, all you have to do is undue steps 3-6 in reverse order. Once you have reassembled your carburetor, fire up the vehicle and you should immediately see a difference, if you don't see a difference, you can either try and repeat the process, although that would mean that you likely need a complete carburetor rebuild. Even though we are aware that engines need fuel to run, that does not mean you can’t make some small changes to help you gain some fuel savings. Keep tires pumped upTires that are underinflated have a higher rolling resistance on the road. This means that with every kilometer traveled, your tires generate more friction and rolling resistance, and hence, will increase fuel consumption. If all your tires are underinflated by 10 psi, this could reduce fuel efficiency by up to 10%. Lose the weight in your bootFor those with a habit of keeping everything and anything in the boot, in addition to emergency spares, think twice when loading up next time. Every extra 50kg your car puts on increases fuel consumption by 2%. Drive with ACDriving with the windows down at speeds faster than 80km/h causes a lot of wind resistance, and costs you a lot more fuel. Contrary to what you may think, in this situation, it’s simply more fuel efficient to drive with the aircon on. Don’t go too fast or too slowWhen cruising down a highway, your engine works hard to overcome wind resistance. You’ll burn up to 15% more fuel at 100 km/h and 25% more at 110 km/h. That might tempt you to drive slow, but if you drive slower than 50 km/h, your engine would drop to a lower gear, thus using up more fuel. In conclusion, a steady 50 – 90 km/h on the highway is best to achieve optimal fuel economy. Remain steady when acceleratingAvoid revving your accelerator to a high revolutions per minute RPM. It’s better for fuel economy, as your engine uses less fuel when it is revolving slower, at a lower RPM. Avoid braking aggressivelySlamming on the brakes increases fuel consumption as you need to accelerate again later. This is especially true if you follow too closely behind the vehicle in front of you. Not to mention, tailgating is dangerous and something to avoid. Cruise in top gearIf you’re driving an automatic car, make use of cruise control to keep your speed constant. And if you’re driving a manual car, maintain a higher gear when appropriate. In each of these instances, your engines go through less revolutions per minute RPM and will reduce your fuel consumption. Practice predictive drivingLook to the road ahead and plan your next move. Instead of slamming on the brakes to a complete stop, try slowing down as you approach the red light. Or when reaching the foot of a hill, start accelerating as you edge closer to it rather than when you approach it. Avoid hard accelerations when moving your car from a complete stop, or climbing a hill as it will increase fuel consumption. Plan your rush hour routeStop-start traffic puts a lot of pressure on your engine, thus burns more fuel. When possible, plan your commute to and from work carefully to help you avoid the worst of peak traffic. Don’t stay idle for longIf you are waiting for something or someone for more than three minutes, turn off your engine. You may not be moving but as long as your engine is on, it’s burning precious fuel. And a final word. Regular car servicing helps maintain your engine’s fuel efficiency. Engine parts work closely in tandem. If poorly maintained, sludge and corrosion will build-up between the parts making it difficult for the engine to work smoothly.
